CABS-Minnesota Awards Five Diverse Voices Fellowships

Colorado Springs, CO — CABS-Minnesota has selected five awardees for the inaugural cohort of the Diverse Voices Fellowship program. The fellowship offers a program of professional and career development in the antiquarian book trade for individuals who have been distanced from the trade by reason of race, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, and/or income. Fellowship activities include virtual events, a two-day field school in New York City, and a week-long seminar in Minnesota about selling antiquarian and rare books.

The 2022 Diverse Voices Fellows are:
    •    Jaime Harker of Violet Valley Bookstore in Water Valley, Mississippi
    •    Nahid Khan, collector, based in Minnesota
    •    Warren Lee of 44th & 3rd Bookseller in Atlanta, Georgia
    •    Katie Mitchell of Good Books, based in Atlanta, Georgia
    •    Michelle Walton of The Collective - Oakland, based in Oakland, California

The five Fellows were selected from a pool of 30 highly-qualified applicants through a rigorous selection process conducted by the CABS-Minnesota Diversity, Equity, and Outreach Committee. “We are delighted to welcome this group of talented Fellows to the antiquarian book trade and the CABS-Minnesota community. The selection committee was impressed with the Fellows’ deep knowledge in specialty areas and their passion for learning about antiquarian bookselling,” noted Lorne Bair, Director of CABS-Minnesota. The Fellows’ areas of expertise include Black, queer, feminist, and Muslim-world materials.
