Swann Auction Galleries Sale #2742: This auction will include iconic works from artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. We continue to offer a diverse group of living artists alongside Pop, Post Modern, Minimalist, and Photorealist artists.
We look forward to offering a Romare Bearden collage, "Carolina Sunset," from 1984, recalling his "Martinique" imagery. From the same year, is Jane Dickson's "Shooting Gallery," an oil stick work on paper depicting a pattern-rich snapshot of a carnival game. Dickson's carnival and thrill ride works, which explore fleeting and artificial pleasure, are a connecting thread in her œuvre. Another captured moment from this world is "Trapeze Artists," 2001, by Verne Dawson.
Highlights from the twenty-first century include Banksy, "Flying Copper," 2004; "Vik Muniz, Beggar #2 (from Beggars after Rembrandt)," 2005; "Chuck Close's Roy Paper/Pulp," 2010, a dizzying and impressive multiple of stenciled paper pulp; Simone Leigh, "Cowrie Shell," 2012; and an assemblage by Vanessa German.
