The highlights include: One of the earliest books printed in Australia, George Howe’s New South Wales Pocket Almanack, 1814; Fine aquatint views of New South Wales and Tasmania in Joseph Lycett’s Views in Australia; The most sumptuously produced Australian book of the twentieth century, Gregory Mathews Birds of Australia (14 volumes); Troedel’s first venture in publishing, The Melbourne Album, the rare complete series of 24 tinted lithographed plates; One of the few topographical plate books produced in Australia before the gold rushes, Select Views of Sydney, New South Wales, drawn and engraved by John Carmichael, 1829; and Volume IV of John Gould’s beautiful Birds of Australia, with 104 fine handcoloured lithographed plates including 2 double-page.
